Swimsuit shopping can be tough, especially if you don’t find the size or styles you love. Here’s the good news: there’s a growing movement for swimwear that’s both ethical and size inclusive. This means you can look amazing, feel great, and know your swimsuit was made responsibly. Let’s dive into a summer of feeling good and looking good, all while being kind to our planet!

The Rise of Sustainable Swimwear Brands

Finding a cute suit that fits well can be a challenge in itself. Traditional swimwear brands often use unfair labor and unsustainable methods to make their products. Ethical brands have noticed and are filling that need.

These brands are looking for ways to make suits using recycled materials, less resources, and with ethical practices. Sustainable swimwear brands are embracing inclusivity, offering a wider range of sizes so everyone can find a suit that they love. You can feel amazing in a stylish suit while knowing it was made with the Earth and workers in mind.

Recycled polyamides are made from recycled plastics, reducing landfill and ocean pollution. ECONYL is recycled nylon made from fishing nets and old clothes. Plant-based fabrics like those made from castor beans are more eco-friendly than synthetic fabrics.

By far, the most eco-friendly and cheapest option is buying secondhand. Circular fashion aims to keep clothes in use longer through reuse, repair, and recycling. This reduces the need for new production, lowering waste and resource demands. However, this may require some luck to find an option that “suits” your needs. More Sizes Matter

The lack of size inclusivity in the fashion industry has been an issue for decades. Sites like this and readers like you are helping to keep it a main focus. We deserve to clothes that fit properly and are stylish while being good for the planet.

Check out my pages on brands that carry at least a 3X, most go higher. I created a list of clothing brands that provide general apparel. I just created a list of brands that have sustainable swimwear. There are more categories to come. If you come across a brand that is no longer open, please let me know so I can update it.

There are good changes happening in fashion. More people are asking for clothes that fit all body sizes, and brands are listening. They’re making more sizes and using different models in their ads. Smaller designers and stores are also making stylish clothes for larger sizes.

The fashion industry still has work to do, but these changes show that they are trying to make clothes for everyone. By changing old ideas and being more diverse, the fashion industry can be more welcoming to all.

Choosing a swimsuit as a plus-size woman can be a journey of self-discovery and empowerment. Embrace your unique beauty and radiance! Let’s turn this experience into a celebration of your curves and confidence. Remember, your self-worth is determined by you, not by the opinions of others. Here are some tips to help you find a swimsuit that makes you feel like the gorgeous queen you are!

Choosing the Right Style:

  • Highlight your assets: Accentuate your favorite features. If you love your legs, opt for a high-cut swimsuit. If you want to showcase your neckline, try a plunging neckline or a halter top.
  • Support is key: Look for swimsuits with built-in bras or underwire for bust support.
  • Tummy control: Look for swimsuits that offer tummy control panels or gathered fabric. These helps smooth and shape your stomach area.
  • Proper fit: Ensure the swimsuit fits well in all areas without pinching or gaping. It should be snug but comfortable.
  • Mix and match: Don’t be afraid to try different combinations of tops and bottoms.

Colors and Patterns:

  • Bold prints: Embrace bright colors and bold prints. They can be fun and eye-catching, adding personality to your swimwear.
  • Strategic patterns: Vertical stripes or patterns can create a slimming effect. Meanwhile, smaller prints can be more flattering than larger ones.
  • Color blocking: Swimsuits with contrasting panels or color blocks can make you look great.

Cover-Ups and Other Accessories in Womens Plus Size Swimwear

Confidence is key: The most important accessory is your confidence! Wear your swimsuit with pride and a smile.

Stylish cover-ups: Flowing kaftans, sarongs, or kimono-style cover-ups go well with swimwear and give you more coverage when you want it.

Accessories: Add a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and a cute beach bag to complete your look.

More Tips:

  • Try before you buy: Whenever possible, try on swimwear before purchasing. This way you can ensure the fit and style are right for you.
  • Check online reviews: Read reviews from other plus-size women to get insights into different brands and styles.

Shop from brands specializing in womens plus size swimwear: Many brands specialize in plus-size bodies, offering a wider range of styles and sizes.

Remember, the best swimsuit is the one that makes you feel confident and comfortable. Embrace your curves and enjoy your time at the beach or pool!

Swimwear design and patterns are constantly changing, a reflection of fashion trends and buyer preferences. In 2024, the key trends in swimwear are:

  1. The Return of the ’90s: Nostalgia for the ’90s is influencing swimwear with simple shapes, clean lines, and solid colors like black. High-cut legs, scoop necklines, and low-rise bottoms are coming back.
  2. Bold Colors and Patterns: Vibrant colors and playful patterns are also trending. Tropical florals, abstract graphics, geometric shapes, and animal prints add a touch of personality and fun to swimwear.
  3. One-Shoulder and Cut-Out Styles: Asymmetrical designs are popular for their modern and edgy style. These styles add visual interest and can be surprisingly flattering.
  4. High-Waisted Bottoms: High-waisted bikini bottoms are a favorite for their vintage-inspired, flattering look. They offer more coverage while still being stylish and trendy.
  5. Textured Fabrics: A new style is textured fabrics like ribbed, crinkled, or crocheted materials. These add depth and dimension to swimwear, creating a unique and eye-catching look.
  6. Sporty Chic: Athleisure-inspired swimwear with sporty details like racerbacks and zip-front closures are gaining popularity. This trend combines fashion with function.

There are many different swimwear styles to choose from, so you can find one that you like. You can find swimsuits in simple or bold styles, made from different materials, or even in retro styles.

This summer let’s make a splash with sustainable swimwear! Explore different styles from ethical brands that care about the environment. Consider buying secondhand to keep our clothes in use and not in landfills. Share your favorite eco-friendly swimwear with others and encourage them to join the movement. Together, we can make a positive impact, one stylish swim at a time!

  1. I love this post. I hear a lot of the time when summer is coming around that people want to get a beach body. I remember hearing someone say that every body is a beach body as long as you are on the beach! I love that we are being more accepting of different bodies. I used to feel that I have to have a certain body type in order to look good in a bathing suit and other bigger body types should cover up. That made me feel self conscious about my body, because I felt I wasn’t the type of body that looks good in a bathing suit, but now I’m seeing so many confident big women in the media. They’re wearing bathing suits and I’m noticing they look beautiful in them. It makes me feel more comfortable in my body, and I truly believe that every body is a beach body.

    • I really believe that looking good in a bathing suit is 70% attitude. There has been such a big movement in the last decade to get us to this point. I’m so glad we are leaving behind the days of “dress for your body type,” all those rules we had to follow to cover up our size. Wear what makes you feel happy!
